The amount is intended to finance the project Renewable Energy in Rural Areas in the Autonomous Regions of the Caribbean and Rio San Juan. The total payout would be $ 33,380,000. The government put a counterpart to US $ 3,089,000.
The same would increase electricity coverage to about 164 communities in those areas.
The decree of the loan, introduced on Tuesday May 31, includes equipment purchase and install solar power systems that would be used in community centers, schools, health centers and homes of the villagers. The investment is to use solar radiation as a source of renewable energy.
The project will comply with the inspections necessary to land and construction standards as well as the bidding process.
On the other hand, the commission will also look for approval a loan of 10 million dollars aimed at strengthening rural electrification in Caribbean communities.
This amount would be provided by the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), an institution of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries created to promote the social development of nations that need support to improve the living conditions of its inhabitants.
These rural electrification projects would have a great impact and, in the opinion of the deputy Loria Raquel Dixon, are part of the steps necessary to promote development in those areas.
Is one of the key elements for the development of production and improving the quality of life of the population in the Caribbean Coast, Dixon said the information system of the parliament.
